The table dates to approximately 1870\u20131900<\/strong>, the period when Neo-Renaissance<\/strong> became the furniture choice of the bourgeoisie and upper society, uniting the dignity of classical architecture with 19th-century technical precision.<\/p>\n

The leg design is the defining element of this style: six massive fluted<\/em> columns \u2014 a direct reference to the Doric<\/em> and Ionic<\/em> orders of ancient Greek architecture \u2014 rise from gadrooned<\/em> ornamental bases and are united by a heavy H-form stretcher. This six-column arrangement is characteristic specifically of French<\/strong> and Belgian<\/strong> large-format dining tables intended for banquet settings of ten to fourteen guests.
