standing nearly two metres tall, is executed in a spirited <strong>neo-rococo<\/strong> manner \u2014 a style that flourished again in the later nineteenth century as a tribute to the grace of the age of Louis XV. The crest and the lower arched stretcher are a lavish example of <strong>hand-carved<\/strong> work: pierced scrolls, <em>rocaille<\/em> shells, undulating acanthus foliage and the easy asymmetry that defines the style.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">The timber is a solid, dense hardwood \u2014 most likely <strong>oak<\/strong> or <strong>walnut<\/strong> \u2014 with a warm natural tone and a strongly figured grain. Its three-legged structure, with an adjustable central support and side pegs, holds paintings, mirrors, framed plaques and decorative panels of varying sizes with confidence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">Made in the neo-rococo \/ historicist spirit; precise dating to be confirmed on close inspection. The sequence number in the data (4294) is not a dating marker. The piece is stable and sound, the woodcarving crisp and well preserved, with a natural patina and light traces of use in keeping with its age.
